New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been placed on the reserve/COVID list on Saturday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.
Newton has been ruled out for Sunday’s game vs. the Chiefs.
Rapoport adds that this is an isolated case, as of right now. Patriots players were alerted this morning to come in and get a POC test because a player had tested positive. The immediate results sho67yw no more positives, according to Rapoport, but results can often taken days to manifest.
Pelissero reports that the Patriots went through the normal procedures once learning of the positive test, which includes the follow-up POC tests the team immediately conducted and the monitoring of data taken from the contact tracing devices worn by players and staff.
The Patriots have yet to travel to Kansas City for their Week 4 matchup with the Chiefs, and the game is still on, according to Pelissero, but the situation in New England remains fluid as game day approaches.
